They definitely aren't hiding anything. The car looks pretty bad on track – lacking front end grip and forcing the drivers to work hard to get it to do what they want, which is never a good way to carry speed through corners.

The car seems to be something of the order of 1.5 seconds off the pace, which is definitely a big problem. Ross Brawn has said that the plan was to launch a "plain" car for the start of testing and then do a big upgrade for Bahrain, but you can be sure that the plan wasn't to run a car with such plain performance.

The team has been switching between two versions of its front wing – one with two slots cut in the main element – suggesting aero problems. Our technical consultant, Gary Anderson, firmly believes that a two-element front wing is more unstable than a three-element one, and it's possible that this is to deal with airflow separation problems.

Nico Rosberg was at his fastest running this wing yesterday, so we will probably see a new front wing based on that concept. There will also be new exhausts – Brawn has promised an innovative design – as well as other aerodynamic revisions. Although it would be an exaggeration to call it a B-spec car, this will be a major package and bolting it on at the eve of the first race is not something you would do in an ideal world, as it will change the characteristics of the car. Also, new exhausts can lead to overheating problems.

This is not the kind of schedule you would design, unless forced to by circumstances, so the team has a lot of work to do.

Možda u ovom trenutku i kasne, ali više puta su naglašavali da je trenutačna verzija auta ima jedan cilj a to je rad na pouzdanosti. I zasada koliko vidim ide sve bolje i bolje kad je pouzdanost u pitanju. Ako su rekli da će update po pitanju performansi doći na zadnjem testu zašto im ne vjerovati?
Vjerujem da Brown zna šta radi. Mislim da je bitnije u ovom trenutku raditi na pouzdanosti bolida, za performanse još ima vremena. Jer badava ti odličan bolid po pitanju performansi ako će se on kvariti i ne završavati utrke. Eto primjer od prošle godine, RB je umalo izgubio prvenstvo zbog kvarova. Imali su daleko najbolji bolid, superioran u odnosu na ostale a problemi sa pouzdanošću anulirali su tu superiornost i da nije bilo taktićke pogreške pitwalla Ferrarija RB nebi osvojio to prvenstvo, osvojio bi ga Ferrari koji je realno bio stepenicu slabiji bolid od RB-a. Ili još jedan primjer, neznam koje je to godine bilo ali Kimi u McLarenu jedne sezone imao je strašan bolid, brz ali stalno se kvario i badava mu je činjenica da je bolid aerodinamička zvijerka kad je stalno odustajao zbog mehaničkih kvarova. McLarenovci će znati koji je to bolid.
Zasada koliko vidim rade dobar posao kad je pouzdanost bolida u pitanju, od sljedećeg testa doći će i ti updateovi i 4 dana testiranja vjerujem da će biti dovoljna da se sve to učtima. Pouzdanost bi trebala biti tu uz kvalitetna aero rješenja vjerujem da će to biti dobar uvod u sezonu.

2005.,a glavni problem je bio nepouzdan motor. Dobio je nekoliko kazni zbog mjenjanja motora i izkubio najmanje 5 pobjeda. Sjećam se Imole,Nürburgringa (tamo je sam bio kriv jer je napravio flat spot na gumi), Hockenheim,Silverstone,Monza,Magny Course...

The reliability of the MGP W02 has been encouraging at this test which now allows us to turn our focus to the performance developments we have to come.”

Mercedes GP is hopeful that it will be in 'reasonable' shape by the time the season starts in Australia - despite the struggles it has faced so far in early testing.

The new W02 has not been a match for early favourites Red Bull Racing and Ferrari in testing, and its hopes for a step forward in performance are pinned on an upgrade package that it is bringing to next week's final pre-season test in Barcelona.

Although the team readily admits that its running so far has not been as good as it had hoped, its CEO Nick Fry said on Thursday that it was too early to write off its campaign.

"Performance, obviously from what we've seen on the track, at the moment is not as good as we would like," Fry told news agency Reuters. "But I think there are two major reasons for that.

"One is that the car did have some cooling issues and has been running with a very sub-optimal cooling package and aerodynamic package, and that is (worth) a significant amount of (lap) time.

"Secondly, we went in (to testing) with a slightly different strategy of having what we called the basic car to start with and what we think will be a significant upgrade for the first race. So we knew we were going to be not the quickest, let's put it that way.

"We are not panicking, we have a plan, we're sticking to it and I think that we will be in a reasonable shape by the time we get to Australia."

Fry was hopeful that the development steps coming for Barcelona – believed to include a revised exhaust package, and new front wing, bargeboards and sidepods would see a lift in Mercedes GP's form.

"There will be some differences in Barcelona as well. I think you will see an improving trend and we are far from panicking. Michael understands the situation and all racing drivers want to be the fastest from the start. That's in their nature."

As well as the pace and reliability problems that Mercedes GP has suffered, there has also been speculation that the team has faced troubled passing the FIA's mandatory crash tests that it needs to do to race with a new exhaust configuration.

Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss Norbert Haug told this week's AUTOSPORT that he did not believe the team would have an issue getting those tests completed

"We will not comment on that," he said when asked if the team had passed the tests yet. "But that should not be a hurdle for us."

kao da ni sam ne zna šta da kaže...barem je moj utisak takav iz ovog intervjua,odnosno iz onog kako je napisan tekst.možda je novinar napisao da izgleda tako...
